BYU colleges honor 10 alumni during Homecoming 2011

Ten Brigham Young University graduates with significant professional accomplishments will be honored with College Alumni Awards during Homecoming 2011.

Nine of the recipients will give college lectures Thursday, Oct. 6, at 11 a.m. and one will present Tuesday,  Oct. 18, at 9:30 a.m.  Lectures include:

· M. David Merrill, David O. McKay School of Education, 115 MCKB, "First Principles of Instruction."
· Thomas R. Warne, Ira A. Fulton College of Engineering and Technology, 140 JSB, "Future Engineering — More Than Mathematics."
· Don H. Staheli, College of Family, Home and Social Sciences, 250 SWKT, "It’s the Principle of the Thing."
· David T. Warner, College of Fine Arts and Communications, Madsen Recital Hall, “More of Our Own Giants.”
· Lew W. Cramer, College of Humanities, B092 JFSB, "So How Did a Humanities Graduate End Up Putting Cell Phones Across the Former Soviet Union?"
· Elder Steven E. Snow, J. Reuben Clark Law School, Oct. 18, Moot Courtroom, “Musings of a Small Town Lawyer.”

Green-thumb dynasty: BYU landscaping wins fifth national championship in six years

For the fifth time in six years, BYU students dug, pruned and planted their way to the National Collegiate Landscaping Competition title, the March Madness of college landscaping teams. BYU bested 50 other universities in the four-day event, outscoring the second-place finisher by more than 358 points and breaking the 5000-point total for the first time in the 48-year history of the tournament.
