BYU cohosts Family Outreach Conference March 11

The Brigham Young University School of Family Life, the Division of Continuing Education and the Provo-based Family Life Education Institute will co-sponsor a one-day conference focused on the many ways citizens can better strengthen the institutions of marriage and the family within their own communities on Friday, March 11, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the BYU Conference Center located northeast of the Marriott Center.

The Family Outreach Conference is a forum where participants can learn better ways to answer the call of "The Family: A Proclamation to the World" of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints "to promote those measures designed to maintain and strengthen the family."

To register or obtain conference materials and further information, visit ce.byu.edu/cw/familyoutreach or call 801-422-8925. Registration, including lunch and materials, is $40. College credit (MFHD 595R, .5 credit) is available at a conference registration fee of $70. For those who cannot attend, materials are available for $10, and current student registration is complimentary through the School of Family Life. Tuition costs for the conference may be covered by university benefits for full-time BYU employees and their spouses.

This year's keynote speaker will be Dawn Cassidy, certification director for the National Council on Family Relations. Other presenters include Susan Easton Black, Wally Goddard, Doug Brinley, Kay and Warner Woodworth and Angelle Anderson.

While the conference will be of great interest and value to professionals in family relationships and other fields, it is also meant to reach individuals of varying backgrounds who share an interest in strengthening families in informal ways.

The conference will feature a plenary panel, breakout sessions conducted by family advocates working and serving in various realms, displays of existing family-strengthening efforts and a "how-to" learning on a range of topics, from finding the right resources to reaching families.
