BYU Clarinet Choir plans free preformance Dec. 6

The Brigham Young University School of Music presents the Clarinet Choir in concert Saturday, Dec. 6, at 3 p.m. in the Museum of Art Auditorium.

The performance is free and the public is welcome to attend.

The program, directed by Jaren Hinckley, will feature music by Sammy Nestico, Claude Debussy and Carl Maria von Weber.

Hinckley said the short concert is well worth attending.

"It's one of the shortest concerts you'll ever see," Hinckley said. "It's only about 30 minutes long, but it's short because we chose difficult pieces."

There will also be a special arrangement of John Lennon and Paul McCartney's "When I'm 64" arranged by Hinckley.

Performers include guest soloist Madeline Lebaron Johnson, a graduate student at Arizona State University who teaches clarinet at BYU. Students include B-flat clarinetists George Bailey, Samantha Schmidt, Daniel Smith, Jonathan Skarda, Laura Ward, Amber Heyen, Kjirstin Sheard, Shannon Epps, Megan Nichols, Julie Brown and Ben Wouden.

"These performers are great because they're not music majors—they're just students who are doing this because they enjoy playing the clarinet," Hinckley said.
