BYU Chamber Orchestra to preview China tour repertoire March 31

The Brigham Young University Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Kory Katseanes will preview its repertoire for an upcoming tour to China in a concert Thursday, March 31, at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall.

A previous release incorrectly listed the date as March 29.

Tickets range in price from $6 to $10 and can be purchased at the Fine Arts Ticket Office, (801) 422-4322, byuarts.com/tickets.

The ensemble will perform Three Episodes from "On The Town' by Leonard Bernstein, "The Butterfly Lover’s Violin Concerto" by  Chen Gang and He Zhanhao featuring violinist Aubrey Woods; "Muqam" from "Chinese Folk Dance Suite" Chen Yi with violin soloist Rachel Ostler; Edward Elgar's "Dream Children"; and "Dances of Galanta" by Zoltan Kodaly.

During a tour of China in April and May 2011, the ensemble will perform in Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Hangzhou and Guangzhou.

The Chamber Orchestra plays the great classical works for small orchestra as well as lighter compositions. The quality of its players and the diversity of its repertoire have earned it the highest recommendation rating from the National Endowment of the Arts, as well as a recording contract with Pyramid Records of Paris, France.

The orchestra regularly tours in the United States and Canada and has performed to high reviews in mainland China, Taiwan and throughout Europe.
