BYU center sponsors annual Hunger Banquet Feb. 24-25

The David M. Kennedy Center for International Studies at Brigham Young University will host the annual Hunger Banquet Friday and Saturday, Feb. 24-25, at 6:30 p.m. in 3220 Wilkinson Student Center.

Tickets are $6 in advance and $8 at the door and are available for purchase at the WSC information desk beginning Feb. 21.

A 15-year BYU tradition, the Hunger Banquet features international performing groups, a simulation of real-world distribution of wealth and a guest lecture on international development issues by Ko Bo Kyi, a former political prisoner from Burma and co-founder of the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners.

Each night participants will receive one of three types of meals: a typical low-income meal, a typical middle-income meal or a typical high-income meal. The distribution of the meals will be approximately the same as the actual economic distribution in the world.

Also, participants are randomly assigned to an income class and sit in an area representing the average conditions of their class.

Organized by the Students for International Development, funds from the banquet will go toward various non-governmental organizations and aid organizations around the world.
