BYU-based American Piano Quartet in concert Feb. 25

The Brigham Young University School of Music presents the American Piano Quartet in concert Wednesday, Feb. 25, at 7:30 p.m., in the de Jong Concert Hall.

Tickets at $9 with $3 off with a BYU or student ID are available through the Fine Arts Ticket Office, (801) 378-4322 or at www.byu.edu/hfac.

The American Piano Quartet will perform music by Sidney Smith, Johannes Brahms, Igor Stravinsky, Sergei Prokofiev, Aram Khachaturian, Moritz Moszkowski and Camille Saint-Saens.

The quartet consists of Robin Hancock, Scott Holden, Paul Pollei and Jeffrey Shumway.

Shumway said the music, played on two pianos with eight hands, produces more of an orchestral than a chamber music sound.

“It’s not your normal high-brow concert,” he said. “The music is exciting and accessible to just about everybody.”

For more information about the American Piano Quartet, contact Jeffrey Shumway at (801) 422-4922.
