BYU Ballroom Dance Company to present pre-tour concert May 18

Brigham Young University’s Ballroom Dance Company will perform its European Pre-Tour Showcase Friday, May 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall, Harris Fine Arts Center.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the Fine Arts Ticket Office, by calling (801) 422-7664 or by visiting performances.byu.edu.

The showcase will present medleys the company will perform on its tour of England, Belgium, France, Switzerland, Italy and Spain from May 25 through June 25.

As part of the tour, they will also perform at the British Open Ballroom Championships. The BYU company has won this competition 18 times in the past, most recently in 2004.

Choreography for the medleys has been done by Lee and Linda Wakefield, Alain Doucet, Anik Jolicoeur, Max Kozhevnikov and Yulia Zagoruychenko. The medleys will also feature new music arranged by Kurt Bestor and costumes designed by Linda Wakefield, Randy Christenson and Maria McGill.

Green-thumb dynasty: BYU landscaping wins fifth national championship in six years

For the fifth time in six years, BYU students dug, pruned and planted their way to the National Collegiate Landscaping Competition title, the March Madness of college landscaping teams. BYU bested 50 other universities in the four-day event, outscoring the second-place finisher by more than 358 points and breaking the 5000-point total for the first time in the 48-year history of the tournament.
