Artists from Brigham Young Unviersity and around the world have come together to create an exhibit exploring the influence of traditional pilgrimage in today's world. The free exhibition, which opened this week, is located in the BYU Harris Fine Arts Center's B.F. Larson Gallery (3rd Floor, center of building) and runs through October 30.

Movement and Meaning: The Power of Pilgrimage presents the work of more than 30 artists. Through art and visitor participation, the collection depicts the way ancient pilgrimage traditions endure in contemporary culture and continue to give purpose to life.

Through music, video and a labyrinth, visitors will be able to have artistic experiences through the diverse and vibrant expressions of artists’ personal pilgrimage experiences.

Sponsored by the BYU Department of Visual Arts, this exhibition also is part of the continuing effort to provide professional experience to students. The curator for the exhibit is Melanie Allred, an undergraduate student in Art History and Curatorial Studies.

The public is invited to learn more about the exhbit by attending a lecture and opening reception on Thursday, October 16, beginning at 4:30 p.m.

One of the exhibition's featured artists, and head of Art Education at the University of Utah, Beth Krensky, will give the guest artist lecture in the Museum of Art Auditorium. Immediately following Krensky's lecture, the reception will be held in the B.F. Larson Gallery of the Harris Fine Arts Center.
