BYU announces 2003-2004 Performing Arts Series

The BYU College of Fine Arts and Communications announces its 2003-2004 Performing Arts Season, "Artists in Motion." The season features visiting guest artists and university ensembles.

Most performances will begin at 7:30 p.m. Individual tickets will be available Saturday, Sept. 13 at the Fine Arts Ticket Office, (801) 378-4322 or at www.byu.edu/hfac.

The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center will perform Wednesday, Nov. 12, in the de Jong Concert Hall. A hallmark of the Chamber Music Society is the broad scope of the careers of its outstanding artist members.

Under the artistic direction of David Shifrin, each member enjoys a thriving solo career and many teach at leading universities and conservatories. They come together in this society and share their love of music.

The Utah Symphony, featuring conductor Keith Lockhart and cellist Shauna Rolston, will perform Thursday, Jan. 8, in the de Jong Concert Hall.

The Amadeus Trio, one of the most dynamic chamber music groups performing today, will perform Saturday, Jan. 17, in the Madsen Recital Hall. Celebrating 13 seasons of performing, members of the trio include Timothy Baker, violin; Jeffrey Solow, cello; and Marian Hahn, piano.

Celebrating its 20th anniversary, Dallas Brass is recognized as one of America's foremost musical ensembles. Performing with a unique blend of traditional brass instruments with a full complement of drums and percussion and under the direction of Michael Levine, Dallas Brass will perform Tuesday, Jan. 20, in the de Jong Concert Hall.

Concertante, a repertory ensemble dedicated to performing chamber music for five or more players, will perform in the de Jong Concert Hall Tuesday, Feb. 24.

The eight-member ensemble includes musicians who have trained at some of the most rigorous musical programs in the world and have achieved impressive and wide-ranging solo careers.

Since their 1987 New York debut, the Cavani String Quartet has won the hearts of audiences across the country with their unique blend of technical brilliance and lyricism. The quartet will perform a tribute to William Primrose, the Scottish virtuoso who helped establish the viola as a concert instrument, Tuesday, March 30, in the Madsen Recital Hall.

The Utah Symphony will perform Wednesday, April 14, in the de Jong Concert Hall in a big band salute-to-pops concert with conductor Keith Lockhart.
