BYU 2009 Employee Giving Campaign wins international medal

Darla Seamons, Employee Giving program director for LDS Philantropies, and Doug Thomas, a designer with Publications and Graphics at Brigham Young University, were instrumental in the creation of the 2009 BYU Employee Giving Campaign, which recently won a bronze medal for excellence in fundraising publications from the Circle of Excellence Awards sponsored by CASE, the Council for Advancement and Support of Education.

Circle of Excellence Awards, recognized as advancement's premier international awards program  recognizing the work of CASE members, acknowledge superior accomplishments that have lasting impact, demonstrate the highest level of professionalism and deliver exceptional results. Winning programs epitomize the profession's best practices, raise standards and contribute to a growing body of knowledge about advancement.

Co-founded in 1974 by then-BYU administrator Ronald Hyde, CASE is a professional association serving educational institutions and the advancement professionals who work on their behalf in alumni relations, communications, development, marketing and allied areas. It now includes nearly 3,400 colleges and universities, primary and secondary independent and international schools, and nonprofit organizations in 59 countries.

Employee Giving at BYU in 2010 made history, with 75 percent of employees participating. This result topped last year’s record-breaking participation total of 72 percent, which was five percent higher than the 67 percent achieved in 2008.

According to Seamons, BYU ranks among the top schools in the country in terms of employee philanthropy. “We were first in the Mountain West Conference last year and we’re also right at the top nationwide,” Seamons said. BYU employees are utilizing more than 300 gift accounts in their giving decisions, including scholarships and mentored learning grants for BYU students.
