Brazilian ambassador to U.S. plans BYU lecture April 13

His Excellency Mauro Vieira, Brazilian ambassador to the United States, will discus "Brazil–U.S. Relations" at a David M. Kennedy Center for International Studies lecture Wednesday, April 13, at noon
in the Harold B. Lee Library Auditorium on the Brigham Young University campus.

Vieira was appointed Brazilian ambassador to the U.S. in 2010, having previously served as Brazil’s ambassador to Argentina since 2004. Vieira’s diplomatic career includes service in Washington, D.C., as second secretary at the Brazilian Embassy (1978-1982), later holding diplomatic posts in Mexico, Uruguay and France.

He received a bachelor’s degree in law from the Universidade Federal Fluminense in 1973 and studied at the Instituto Rio Branco, the diplomatic academy of Brazil’s Foreign Ministry, before entering the diplomatic corps. He later earned certificates in English language study at the University of Michigan and Cambridge University and studied French at the Université de Nancy in France.
