Ballroom Dance Company director to speak at BYU devotional

Lee Wakefield, Dance Department chair and director of the Brigham Young University Ballroom Dance Company, will speak at a campus devotional Tuesday, July 13, at 11:05 a.m. in the Joseph Smith Building Auditorium due to construction in the Harris Fine Arts Center.

Overflow seating will be available in W-111 Ezra Taft Benson Building, the Varsity Theater and 2084 Jesse Knight Humanities Building.

The devotional will be broadcast live on KBYU (Channel 11), KBYU-FM (89.1), on the BYU-Television and BYU-Radio satellite networks and on byubroadcasting.org.

It will be rebroadcast Sunday, July 18, on BYU-Radio at 6 a.m. and 4 p.m., on KBYU (Channel 11) at 6 a.m. and 11 a.m., on BYU-Television at 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. and on KBYU-FM (89.1) at 8 p.m.

Wakefield has directed the BYU Ballroom Dance Company with his wife, Linda, since 1980. The company recently placed first in both the modern and Latin American Formation Competitions at the 2004 Blackpool Dance Festival in England.

The Ballroom Dance Company is also the reigning United States National Formation Team Champions in both Latin and standards competitions, having won both every year since 1982.

Brigham Young University has the largest collegiate ballroom dance program in the world.

Wakefield earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from BYU.
