Audition choirs at BYU present Choral Showcase Sept. 29-30

The audition choirs from Brigham Young University will present the fall Choral Showcase Thursday and Friday, Sept. 29-30, at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall.

Tickets are available through the Fine Arts Ticket Office at (801) 422-4322 or at performances.byu.edu for $9 or $6 with student ID.

Women’s Chorus, conducted by Jean Applonie, will begin the performance with “Gloria from ‘Kyrie/Gloria’” by Agnet Skold, “Things That Never Die” by Lee Dengler and “Song of Ezekiel” by Michael Torke.

The Concert Choir, conducted by Rosalind Hall, will follow with the Gloria from Missa Brevis by Richard Rodney Bennett, “A Prayer of the Middle Ages” by Howard Hanson and “Ain’t-a That Good News,” an African-American spiritual arranged by Mark Hayes.

Conductor Ronald Staheli will lead the BYU Singers in performing “Verbum spernum prodiens” by Damijan Mocnik, “Nachtwache” I, op. 104, no. 1 by Johannes Brahms and “Psalm 119” by Robert Beaser.

The Men’s Chorus, conducted by Rosalind Hall, will perform “Gloria,” op. 52 by William Mathias, “Dálvi duoddar luohti “(Lapland chant) by Seppo Paakkkuunen and “Sing Out, My Soul” by Mark Hayes.

After a group sing of “For Such a Time As This” by Ralph M. Johnson involving the audience and choirs, the combined choirs will perform “The Singing Heart” by Bob Chilcott and “High on the Mountain Top” by Ebenezer Beesley arranged by Robert Cundick.
