Athletic Director Thomas Holmoe to address BYU devotional

Tom Holmoe, director of athletics at Brigham Young University, will speak Tuesday, Nov. 28, at 11:05 a.m. in the Marriott Center for a BYU campus devotional.

It will be broadcast live on KBYU-TV (Channel 11), BYU-Television, KBYU-FM (89.1), BYU-Radio and byubroadcasting.org, as well as on campus in the Joseph Smith Building auditorium and the Varsity Theater in the Wilkinson Student Center.

BYU President Cecil O. Samuelson appointed Holmoe as director in 2005 after Holmoe had served since 2001 as an associate athletic director. A native of La Crescenta, Calif., Holmoe was head coach of the University of California Golden Bears and a secondary coach for Stanford. He also served as a graduate assistant under LaVell Edwards.

During his pro career with the San Francisco 49ers, Holmoe played on three Super Bowl teams in 1984, 1988 and 1989. He also won a fourth title as the 49ers secondary coach in 1994.

Holmoe started his football career at BYU with a football scholarship in 1978. He became a starter as a sophomore in 1980 and led the Western Athletic Conference with seven interceptions. He went on to earn first-team WAC honors as a senior in 1982.
