Artist Gary Barton to address BYU devotional July 23

Gary Barton, an associate dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communications at Brigham Young University, will speak at the campus devotional Tuesday, July 23, at 11:05 a.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall.

The devotional will be broadcast live on the BYU Broadcasting channels and online at byutv.org. Rebroadcast information can be found through byutv.org/schedule. Archived devotionals are available at speeches.byu.edu.

Summer term devotionals will also be broadcast on campus in F-201 Harris Fine Arts Center, the Joseph Smith Building Auditorium and the Varsity Theater in the Wilkinson Student Center.

As a visual arts professor and studio artist, Barton works primarily in two-dimensional media, including painting, printmaking and mixed media. He has shown his work extensively in national and international exhibitions and has received many grants and awards for his work, including the Award for Excellence in Creative Works from BYU's College of Fine Arts and Communications and the Utah Arts Council Visual Arts Fellowship.

While at BYU Barton has served as the 2- studio area coordinator and associate chair of the Department of Visual Arts and has been the director or associate director of several study abroad programs. He has also served on the Gordon B. Hinckley Presidential Scholarship Committee, the London Center Study Abroad Committee and the University Rank and Status Council.
