Argentine ambassador at BYU lecture series Feb. 26

His Excellency Jose Octavio Bordon, ambassador of Argentina to the United States, will address "Argentina-U.S. Relations" at the International Forum Series on Thursday, Feb. 26, at 11 a.m. in 2084 Jesse Knight Humanities Building on the Brigham Young University campus.

Bordon was appointed ambassador on Sept. 8, 2003. In 1995, he ran for president of Argentina, finishing with 30 percent of the vote in second place. He also served for a time as the president of the Peronist party.

He is president of the Andean Foundation as well as co-chair of PREAL's (Program for Educational Reform in Latin America and the Caribbean) Task Force on Education, Equity and Economic Competitiveness in Latin America and the Caribbean.

He has taught at several educational institutions, including George Washington University, the London School of Economics, Saint Anthony College at Oxford University, Stanford University, the University of Southern California, University of Bologna (Italy), Universidad Catolica de Valparaiso (Chile) and University Do Sao Paulo (Brazil).

Bordon earned a master's degree in sociology from the University of El Salvador in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
