Area Focus Lecture to consider Economics of Scottish Independence Feb. 17

"The Economics of Scottish Independence" will be the topic of an Area Focus Lecture Thursday, Feb. 17, by Jim S. Mather, member of the Scottish Parliament and Scottish National Party spokesman for Enterprise and the Economy.

The lecture will be at 11 a.m. in 238 Herald R. Clark Building on the Brigham Young University campus

Mather is the founding director of the Scotland Funds, an initiative to parlay the wealth of U.S. citizens with Scots ancestry back to Scotland. He modeled the effort on a similar group established in Ireland in 1987 that now assists with 200 projects there annually.

Prior to Mather's appointment as the Scottish National Party spokesman in 2003, he had served as executive director of business for Scotland since in 1998. He also worked as a freelance marketing consultant with new and established businesses from 1997 to 2003.

The lecture will be archived online. For information on Kennedy Center events, see the calendar and News and Events online at kennedy.byu.edu.
