Applications now being accepted for Young Musicians Academy

Tuition discount offered to early registrants

The Brigham Young University School of Music is now accepting applications for its 2014-2015 Young Musicians Academy, a series of classes for preschool infants, children and their parents. Based on the belief that young children learn best when they are free to play and make discoveries as they play, these weekly classes provide rich music environments where children may explore a variety of music instruments, recordings, songs and music toys without structured teaching. Parents and teachers serve as partners in the play, and learn ways to expand children’s understanding as they observe, label behaviors and make music with the children.

The program is currently accepting early-bird registration; participants who sign up before April 30 will receive a $15 discount on tuition.

The program runs 22 class periods; classes meet on Saturdays for one hour. Classes begin Sept. 6 and go until March 2015. Three class levels are offered, based on the child's age:

  • Parent-Toddler Class: For children from 20 months up to two years old. A parent must attend with their child.
  • Music Explorers Class: For children who are three years old, or have taken the Parent-Toddler Class. It is recommended that a parent attend with their child.
  • Music Makers Class: For children who are four or five years old, and will not be attending kindergarten.

Tuition is $275 per child and $265 per child if more than one child in a family registers. Early-bird registration is $260 per child and $250 per child if more than one child in a family registers. A $50 non-refundable deposit for each child is necessary to register.

Applications are available in C-550 Harris Fine Arts Center or via the Young Musicians Academy website. Class size is limited to 12 children per class, and registration is required.

To learn more about the program, call Katie Mecham at 801-422-3200 or visit the Young Musicians Academy site.
