Annual Workshop on Technology for Family History and Genealogical Research March 13 at BYU

Precedes Computerized Family History and Genealogy Conference March 14 and 15

TheBrigham Young University Computer Science Department will host its EighthAnnual Workshop on Technology for Family History and Genealogical Researchbeginning at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 13, at the BYU Conference Center.

Themorning’s keynote speaker will be Josh Coates, founder of Mozy, Inc. He willspeak on “Back-up Technology.” Paul Allen, CEO of FamilyLink.com, Inc., will bethe luncheon speaker.

Morethan a dozen presentations and panel discussions on current and emergingresearch and technology supporting family history and genealogy will be held inthe morning and afternoon technical sessions.

Theworkshop is open to the public. Pre-registration is $75 and is encouraged. Thecost for walk-in participants is $85. Full-time students can register for $35with a current ID. The registration includes a printed syllabus and DVDrecording of the proceedings along with a continental breakfast, catered lunchand afternoon snacks.

Green-thumb dynasty: BYU landscaping wins fifth national championship in six years

For the fifth time in six years, BYU students dug, pruned and planted their way to the National Collegiate Landscaping Competition title, the March Madness of college landscaping teams. BYU bested 50 other universities in the four-day event, outscoring the second-place finisher by more than 358 points and breaking the 5000-point total for the first time in the 48-year history of the tournament.
