Annual de Lamar Jensen Lecture features Ohio State historian Oct. 21

Brigham Young University’s Department of History is hosting its annual de Lamar Jensen Lecture by welcoming Ohio State University history professor Geoffrey Parker Thursday, Oct. 21, at 11 a.m. in 1060 Harold B. Lee Library. The event is free and open to the public.

Parker, who will discuss “The Crisis of the 1590s Reconsidered: Philip II, His Enemies and Climate Change,” has published widely about the social, political and military history of early modern Europe.

“He’s one of the pre-eminent historians in the world, especially in Spanish and military history,” said Craig Harline, a BYU history professor. “Students will learn about the relationship between the Spanish Armada, climate change in the 16th century and political policy today.”

Now in its third year, the de Lamar Jensen Lecture was established to honor Jensen, who joined the BYU history faculty in 1957.

For more details, contact Craig Harline at (801) 422-7848 or craig_harline@byu.edu.
