Acclaimed television producer James Burke to speak at BYU forum Jan. 24

James Burke, producer, writer, director and presenter of many award-winning television series, will speak at a Brigham Young University campus forum Tuesday, Jan. 24, at 11:05 a.m. in the Marriott Center.

Live broadcasts are available on KBYU-TV (Channel 11), BYU-Television, KBYU-FM (89.1), BYU-Radio and byubroadcasting.org, as well as on campus in the Joseph Smith Building auditorium and the Varsity Theater in the Wilkinson Student Center. Best known for his PBS documentary series “Connections,” Burke also created, produced and hosted “Connections2” and “Connections3” for The Discovery Channel, “The Day the Universe Changed” and “After the Warming” for PBS and “Masters of Illusion” for the National Gallery of Art.

His series often include insights into the ties or connections between momentous historical events, such as “How the arrival of the cannon led to the development of movies.”

With a master’s degree in English from Oxford University, Burke has been hailed by The Washington Post as “one of the most intriguing minds in the Western world.” With his vast knowledge and fascination of science and technology, Burke has used television to produce programs that entertain and inform.

He has also authored several books, including “Connections,” “The Day the Universe Changed” and “The Knowledge Web.”

He contributes to Time magazine and will release his next book, “American Connections,” this year.
