Additional details regarding this week's presidential inauguration

This special event will mark the formal induction of President C. Shane Reese as the 14th president of BYU and give the university community a chance to celebrate a milestone in BYU’s history.

President Dallin H. Oaks, first counselor in the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, who also serves as first vice chairman of the Board of Trustees, will preside at the ceremony.

Elder D. Todd Christofferson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, who also serves as chairman of the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees, will give the inaugural charge and be joined by President Oaks in the installation of President Reese. Introductory remarks will be offered by Elder Ronald A. Rasband of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, who also serves as vice chairman of the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees. President Reese will also speak. Elder Clark G. Gilbert, a General Authority Seventy, who serves as commissioner of the Church Educational System, will conduct the inauguration.

Special musical numbers will be provided by the BYU Combined Choirs and the BYU Philharmonic Orchestra.

Please plan on being in your seats by 10:45 a.m. The meeting will begin promptly at 11 a.m. Faculty have been instructed to dismiss classes by 10:30 a.m. so students and employees can make it to the Marriott Center on time. Campus offices should also close at 10:30 a.m. Doors open at the Marriott Center at 9:30 a.m.

To eliminate the pressure to leave early at the end of the inauguration, faculty and campus offices will be flexible on the start of noon classes and the reopening time after the ceremony. To respect the dignity of the ceremony and our guests, please remain in the Marriott Center through the entire inauguration.

If you can’t make it to the Marriott Center, the inauguration will be broadcast live on BYUtv and BYUtv.org.

The lot just north of the Marriott Center (Lot 19) and the entire visitor lot east of the Wilkinson Student Center (Lot 26) will be closed starting at midnight through most of the day Tuesday. Only those with inauguration parking passes will be permitted to park in those lots. Additionally, the roundabout east of the Wilkinson Center will be closed from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
