Cougar Queries is a series profiling BYU employees by asking them questions about their work, interests and life.
BYU employee since: 2012.
My job at BYU is… I have been one of the Artistic Directors of BYU Theatre Ballet. I am currently teaching the ballet company's technique class, kinesiology for dancers and serving in an administrative role.
I’m currently working on… learning what my new role is as associate dean in the College of Fine Arts and Communications and going to as many campus arts events as I can.
I’m currently reading… I just finished the 8th book in The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion, and am currently reading "Braiding Sweetgrass."
I get most excited about my work when… I can see the students process information and start to put it into practice. I love the process of discovery!
My former mentors Attila Ficzere and Carol Iwasaki... sparked my interest in my field.
My biggest professional accomplishment is… having a family in a discipline that is not very family-friendly.
My advice to incoming freshmen... is to take advantage of the assignments to meet new people and go to campus events for UNIV 101.
My advice to graduating seniors... is to continue seeking good mentors who will help you become a disciple-scholar. It's not always obvious how to incorporate our faith in the rest of our lives, but mentors help.
My go-to BYU Creamery ice cream flavor is… In-Shane-ly chocolate.
My favorite BYU tradition is… campus devotionals because they help me slow down and remember what is most important.
My favorite spot on campus is… the Museum of Art because it is so quiet and peaceful, and I love to surround myself with beauty.
My most cherished memory at BYU is… going on tour with the BYU dance performing companies. The students are incredible cultural ambassadors for the church and BYU. I’ve seen them do so much good wherever they go.
My go-to comfort food is… anything chocolate.
Three things that are always found in my refrigerator are… Dr. Pepper and coconut creamer. IYKYK!
You’ll never find me without… a book to read, and a few audiobooks to listen to.
