Name: Paul Savage
BYU employee since: 1995
My job at BYU is… professor of chemistry and biochemistry.
On Saturday mornings you’ll find me… climbing a mountain with Valerie (my dear wife); we’ve climbed most of the high peaks in Utah.
I’m currently working on… becoming a more patient driver (it’s a lifelong goal).
I’m currently (re)reading… "The Making of the Atomic Bomb" and "The Book of Mormon."
I get most excited about my work when… our discoveries can be used to help people.
My favorite part about teaching is… helping students understand themselves and the world around them.
The best advice I’ve ever gotten about teaching is… if it isn’t enjoyable for you, it isn’t enjoyable for your students.
My favorite quote is… "There are only two tragedies in life: one is not getting what one wants, and the other is getting it." (Oscar Wilde)
My favorite joke … involves Heisenberg and Schrodinger driving in a car. The punch lines are: “Great! Now I’m lost!!” and “Well, we do now!” I’ll tell the entire joke upon request.
