Name: Landon Tooke
BYU employee since: 2007
My job at BYU is… an academic and professional development manager. I get to guide, empower and teach students how to become intentional in their educational journeys while interacting with their courses and experiences. And, how to integrate their skills and personal growth to achieve their dreams. My goal is to help them all arrive at graduation successfully and career ready.
I am currently working on… creating an innovative software platform through BYU Connect that will help economics students better track their progress and maximize experiences in their program so they graduate career ready.
When I have 30 minutes of free time, you can find me… with my five-year-old running errands or just spending time together. This has become a daily occurrence and a tremendous blessing as I have worked from home this past year.
My advice to incoming freshmen is… now that you’ve been admitted into a good school, pick a good program to study and get good grades, but do not forget to build your resume with experiential learning opportunities along the way!
My advice to graduating seniors is… be ready to articulate your undergraduate experiences, network, showcase your skills and be patient.
I became a BYU fan when… I was seven years old, and my uncle, who was a captain on the football team, helped lead them to win the national championship!
On Saturday mornings you will find me… at Provo Bakery with my family. From their cream-filled croissants to the honey bran muffins, I celebrate their entire menu! I love this weekly tradition with my family.
My favorite quote is… “Never get too comfortable. To move forward, know that growth starts at the end of your comfort zone.”
One item on my bucket list is… to vacation more on cruise ships. I have been on 11 cruises so far and believe it’s the very best way to travel!
My fondest memory from my childhood is when… Santa Claus would visit. It inspired me to build my own seasonal Santa Claus business.
