Name: Melissa Larson
BYU employee since January 2001
My job at BYU is… teaching accounting, the language of business.
I recently returned to school as a full-time student and completed a Ph.D. in instructional psychology and technology. My research focus was improving student success in large-enrollment courses (aka ACC 200). I am currently implementing inventions in my courses to help students engage more with the learning process.
I’m currently reading… "The Fearless Mind: 5 Essential Steps to Higher Performance," by Craig Manning.
I get most excited about my work when… I see students in my classes grow in their testimonies, abilities and confidence.
When I have 30 minutes of free time, you can find me… reading or doing laundry.
My go-to BYU Creamery ice cream flavor is… BYU mint brownies. I don’t like ice cream, but I love BYU mint brownies.
My most cherished memory at BYU is… attending weekly devotionals this past academic year with my three sons and niece.
On Saturday mornings you’ll find me… running with my sisters.
Three things that are always found in my refrigerator are… eggs, egg whites and fresh fruit.
One of my favorite quotes is… “It is often the small steps, not the giant leaps, that bring about the most lasting change.” –Queen Elizabeth II
