Name: Whitney Hanks
BYU employee since… I started working for BYU as a freshman in 2005 and went full-time in 2012.
My job at BYU is… I am an area supervisor for BYU Building Care. I help oversee the custodial staff for and maintenance of 21 buildings, including the Motion Picture Studio, Ellsworth, Information Technology Building and University Parkway Center to name a few.
I’m currently working on... my houseplant collection. I have over 200 and recently converted a glass cabinet into an indoor greenhouse for some of them.
My go-to comfort food is... chicken tikka masala.
My favorite jokes... are puns. My friend just bought me a wood block that says, “Plants are my soil mates.”
I’m currently reading… "Followed by Frost" by Charlie N. Holmberg, "Ariadne" by Jennifer Saint, and I’m slowing making my way through "Moby-Dick" by Herman Melville.
My go-to BYU Creamery ice cream flavor is… Graham Canyon.
When I have 30 minutes of free time, you can find me… crocheting. I make blankets and toys, and have helped The Magic Yarn Project, which provides character wigs for children with cancer.
If I could travel anywhere... I would go to New Zealand (because Hobbiton) or to France, Hong Kong, or Shanghai, because it would be cool to say I’d been to each of the Disney Parks.
You’ll never find me without… an audiobook on my phone.
My most exciting memory at BYU is… when my co-worker Tim Wilda and I helped a deer get its leg unstuck from a fence.
