Name: Roy Brinkerhoff
BYU employee since… September 1, 1984.
My job at BYU is… the coordination, training, promotion and marketing for BYU Alumni chapters across the United States. I also oversee the BYU Alumni Replenishment Grant program. Replenishment Grants are BYU Alumni Chapters helping students with tuition grants for their schooling. Funds are raised by our Alumni chapters and then grants are awarded to students from those chapter areas.
I’m currently working on… several things at once. Processing the 2020 Annual Reports from our chapters, preparing Replenishment Grant applications to send to the chapters and planning with our chapters the Cougar Town Tailgate parties for the away BYU Football games this coming season.
I’m currently reading… "Decluttering at the Speed of Life" and "Tools of Titans"
I get most excited about my work when… Hundreds or thousands of alumni come together to share an experience with a BYU performing group, athletic team or a faculty speaker that is visiting their chapter area.
When I tell people I work for BYU Alumni, they often say… "Alumni? So… you raise money!" If my wife is there, she is quick to say, “He doesn’t raise money, he throws parties!”
When I have 30 minutes of free time, you can find me… reading, listening to a podcast or planning a new woodworking project.
My favorite spot on campus is… anywhere outside on a beautiful spring or fall day because BYU Grounds does an amazing job to make the entire campus feel like a world-class botanical garden.
My go-to comfort food is… peanuts and chocolate.
One item on my bucket list is… to visit all of the U.S. National Parks.
From Michael Johanson, Director of Alumni Relations: "Roy crafted the Alumni Chapter system that now spans the globe and has been the architect of the Alumni Replenishment Grant program that awarded over $1M to 501 students last year (and does every year). The funding for the program comes from our more than 120 alumni chapters (regional, college and professional) and follows a localized and relevant crowd-funding model that blesses the giver and receiver."
