Name: Brooke Smith Robertson
BYU employee since: 2011
My job at BYU is… policy manager and analyst in the Integrity and Compliance Office. I help make sure that the university policies at policy.byu.edu are up-to-date, accessible and a valuable resource for the university community.
I’m currently working on… assembling what I hope will be helpful resources for those in the campus community who are stewards of policy in their respective offices and areas.
I’m currently reading… "The Only Plane in the Sky: An Oral History of 9/11" by Garrett M. Graff (audiobook version) and "Saints, Volume 3."
I get most excited about my work when… after diligent collaboration with a wide range of colleagues across campus, we produce a well-written and clear policy that helps facilitate the work of the university.
My go-to BYU Creamery ice cream flavor is… Coconut Joy.
My favorite spot on campus is… the South Campus Stream and Trail because it’s beautiful and peaceful — perfect for a lunchtime stroll.
Three things that are always found in my refrigerator are… Brie (the best of all the cheeses), Greek yogurt and insulin (I have type 1 diabetes).
You’ll never find me without… candy cane-flavored ChapStick.
My favorite TV show growing up was… "Saved by the Bell." Those kids were super rad and made me feel like my puffy 90s hair and oversized clothes were right on target.
I’m most looking forward to… building stronger relationships with my husband and the six awesome children I gained when we married last month. I feel like I’ve enrolled in a graduate program in family life with a lot of experiential learning in the curriculum!
If I could travel anywhere, I would go to... Scotland because I dream of hiking the Highlands and feeling connected to my Scottish ancestors, for whom I’ve been doing temple work.
My favorite quote is… by Henry David Thoreau: “If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.”
