Name: Brent Webb
BYU employee since: 1986
My job at BYU is... professor of mechanical engineering.
I’m currently working on... organizing an “Energy Focus” study abroad throughout four countries in Europe.
I’m currently reading..."Karl G. Maeser: A Biography,” by his son, Reinhard Maeser.
My favorite part about teaching is... helping students see how what they are learning is found in the world around them.
My favorite lecture to teach is... the principle of increase of entropy while applying gospel principles.
When I have 30 minutes of free time... you can find me probably reading national and international news.
The best-kept BYU secret is... devotionals
My favorite BYU tradition is... commencement because I love to see the students’ parents and families.
My favorite spot on campus is... the classroom and the lab because I love being with the students.
My most cherished memory at BYU is... when I proposed to my wife. We drove as far up on Y Mountain as you could go, and then I handed her a writing pad. I had taken a carving knife and cut out a perfect square for the ring to be kept in hidden beneath the pages of the pad. I was leaving soon and would be gone the whole summer to sell books, which I hated. We were never apart for the summer again.
My go-to comfort food is... a Snickers bar.
My Favorite Quote: "That every professor and teacher in this institution would keep his [or her] subject matter bathed in the light and color of the restored gospel and have all his [or her] subject matter perfumed lightly with the spirit of the gospel." -Spencer W. Kimball
One item on my bucket list is... to serve a mission with my wife.
