Wilson has been serving in the role since June 27, 2019.

“Branden is uniquely qualified for this position," said Steven M. Sandberg, assistant to the president and general counsel at BYU. "His technical expertise and collaborative instincts have won the trust and respect of everyone he works with, both inside and outside the university. His experience directing the university’s environmental health and safety operations has prepared him to take on the full range of important risk management issues facing BYU. I look forward to working closely with him and his entire team.”

Wilson began his service at BYU in 2013 as the BYU safety director. He has more recently served, for the last several years, as the associate managing director of the risk management and safety department.

Prior to his service at BYU, Wilson was the safety program manager at a chemical weapons destruction facility, where he was instrumental in accomplishing the safe destruction of 43% (over 1,138,700 weapons or containers) of the U.S. chemical weapons stockpile.

Wilson holds a Professional Master of Science and Technology degree from the University of Utah. Additionally, Wilson is a certified risk manager, certified safety professional and a registered environmental manager.
