In his new role, Flinders will lead the university's human resource functions — which includes, among other things, oversight of hiring, compensation, benefits, employee relations and employee training.

“John has extensive experience in human resources and has been a proven leader in various HR roles. He also has a love for, and a passion to fulfill, the mission of BYU," Hafen said.

Prior to joining BYU as managing director of employee relations and equal opportunity, Flinders served in human resource leadership for over 20 years with software technology companies Micro Focus, The Attachmate Group and Novell.

Effective September 16, Flinders will replace David Tueller who is retiring from BYU after 18 years of service in various human resource roles, including the last six years as the assistant administration vice president.

“David has been an outstanding employee at BYU and is a close friend and colleague to employees across campus, he will be missed. We wish him the very best as he begins this exciting new phase of life!” Hafen said.
