Every season has its own beauty on Brigham Young University’s campus. The physical facilities department works tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure campus is a sight to see. That hard work received national recognition for the incredible beauty it produces.
BYU Physical Facilities received the 2019 Award for Excellence in Facilities Management from the Association of Physical Plant Administrators (APPA).
The award is APPA's highest institution honor and underscores the essential role of facilities operations in an institution's mission and vision.
“The mission of BYU Physical Facilities is ‘Caring for the BYU legacy through the timeless design, precision, construction, impeccable maintenance and amazing service.’” said Lander Medlin, APPA’s Executive Vice President. “It relies upon the quality of its services, the skilled expertise of staff and timely response to service requests to maintain its place as a highly valued asset for the campus community.”
BYU Physical Facilities received the very first APPA Award for Excellence in 1988, and is the only institution to have won the award a second time.
“It’s a great honor to receive this prestigious award from APPA,” said Ole Smith, Physical Facilities assistant administrative vice president. “BYU could not have been considered for such a meaningful recognition without the ongoing support of the Church and the dedicated efforts of so many Physical Facilities employees, who have continuously maintained such a high standard of excellence for much more than 32 years.”
BYU was recognized during the awards reception at the 2019 APPA Annual Conference in Denver, Colorado in July.
