"Working from home with kids. That’s it. That’s the tweet. But really, my husband works in a skilled nursing facility, so our 2 and 4 year old girls have been home with me working full time a lot. We don’t have a backyard and they’re pretty energetic, so after the first week full of fails, we bought a bounce house. Best pandemic purchase, hands down." Submitted by: Katie Zobell

"I bought a treadmill that fits under a desk so I can walk while I’m in meetings, or while working on something that requires minimal typing. It’s a great way to stay active while working and has even helped me focus!" Submitted by: Brenna King

"It is fun to be able to work next to my wife sometimes, who also works at BYU. However, she Zooms a lot with students and so we had to figure out a 2nd work area for when we both have zoom meetings or I am doing a training. So I set up another space in front of the sliding doors going out to our back deck to capture some natural light. The standing desk is a recent addition that has made a ton of difference for me when I am doing presentations." Submitted by: Greg Danklef (1 of 2)

"My workspace is often overrun by my personal assistants. Pip and Squeak are keeping track of my productivity while making sure I keep my desktop clear of extra pens, pencils, or LifeSavers. My chair is a frequent location for wrestling matches or sleeping with their mother who was dumped in our neighborhood and we have adopted the whole family. The girls are almost 6 months old and have made a few appearances in Zoom meetings. Definitely COVID stress relievers!" Submitted by: Laurel Bishop

"This is the typical view from my desk when I work from home. My sad dog doesn’t understand why I spend so much time on my computer and can’t play with him all day. This was our compromise. I can now hold the mouse with my right hand and pet the dog with my left. Ha! Happy dog = productive employee!" Submitted by: Krista Mortensen

"This picture just makes me laugh – my office has actually never been busier than with COVID – our appointments have increased upwards of 150-300% depending upon the month. It’s funny but COVID has allowed my office to become accessible and nimble in a way that makes me really appreciate the opportunity to do this." Submitted by: KrisTina Carlson

"As an academic advisor I spend A LOT of time with my webcam on. I was stuck between really liking my desk setup and my camera pointing straight to the window turning me into a silhouette. I didn’t want to get curtains that turned this room into a cave, so the solution: a bookcase backdrop! I love the surprised looks on people’s faces when the back of my chair bumps it and all the sudden they realize it’s not a real bookcase." Submitted by: Kyle Mammen

"At our house, we have converted a corner of the basement into a "Zoom room". My husband and I both teach at BYU, so coming up with a professional-looking solution that we could share at home became instantly vital for us in the middle of Winter semester 2020. My BYU undergraduate degree is in photography, so I decided to pull together the materials to make a small studio for our online teaching needs. Knowing how the laptop camera’s automatic metering system works, I painted the wall a mid-toned cool color to offset and balance out my light skin tone and invested in some inexpensive ring lights from Amazon to ensure consistent lighting at any time of day. I assembled an "office" out of a desk chair and a folding table with a laptop stand. To help dampen the sound in the otherwise-open family room, I hung sleeping bags on the walls and set up some room dividers with foam mattress pads attached. Since I teach a foreign language, I also added a lapel mic on a small tabletop tripod to help with sound clarity and quality. There's even a poster of a beach hanging on the inside of the divider so we can take a visual break from the screen when needed. Now when I call in to extended family Zoom meetings, my sister jokes that I am joining them from the PBS studio." Submitted by: Maren Mecham

"Even though I am officing from the north end of my ping pong table, I wanted to share with you my working from home “Stand In Steve” piece that allows me to take breaks during Zoom calls/meetings and still provide the security that I am still engaged in the Zoom meeting. Only to be used for emergencies or bathroom breaks, of course." Submitted by: Steve Morley (1 of 2)
