Carri Jenkins

Assistant to the President for University Communications

Carri directs the work of University Communications, serves as a member of the President’s Council, and acts as the university’s primary spokesperson.

A Utah native, Carri received bachelor’s and master's degrees from BYU in communications. For 12 years, she served as the associate editor of BYU Magazine, the university's alumni publication. She also has been an instructor in the BYU Communications Department, a university speech writer and a publicity director. Prior to her current position, which she has held since 2000, she was the director of Media Communications at BYU.

As a spokesperson for BYU since 1995, Carri has received a lot of questions – some of them from people who are only getting to know the university. “Every once in a while, I’ll even get asked if dancing is forbidden here. This always makes me laugh, especially if you’ve ever seen some of the viral videos out there of our students dancing – Cosmo and the Cougarettes and our 2014 Olympian who got worldwide attention for her pre-race warm-up.

“I actually appreciate these questions, however, because it gives me a chance to share who we are at BYU. Our students come from all 50 states and more than 110 countries. BYU’s programs are routinely ranked as some of the best in the country, and our students are constantly recognized for outstanding scholarship and performance. In fact, there are so many great happenings at BYU that it’s hard to keep up with them. This makes me especially grateful for my talented colleagues within University Communications, who are committed to telling the stories of BYU."
