Yvette Donosso Diaz will discuss Utah's ethnic diversity Nov. 30 at BYU

Yvette Donosso Diaz, executive director of Community and the Arts from Gov. Jon Huntsman, Jr.’s cabinet, will address “Utah’s Growing Ethnic Diversity: Challenges and Opportunities” on Wednesday, Nov. 30, at noon in 238 Herald R. Clark Building on the Brigham Young University campus.

Diaz is one of two prominent female attorneys in the Governor’s office and is Utah's first Hispanic woman to hold a cabinet-level position.

Her stated objective is to “elevate the role of arts and bolster the role of ethnic affairs offices in economic development,” and she would like to “bridge departments such as libraries and museums; in ethnic affairs, she'd like to see the ethnic offices pool their resources.”

She was honored by Salt Lake Magazine as one of the ten women sure to change Utah.

Born to Colombian immigrant parents in Los Angeles, she is a BYU alumna, having graduated with honors in 1995 and received her J.D. from the J. Reuben Clark Law School in 1999.

This lecture is sponsored by Latin American Studies and will be archived online. For more information on Kennedy Center events, see the calendar and news online at http://kennedy.byu.edu.
