Wheatley Institution event to consider teaching virtue Oct. 21-22

Prominent scholars and area educators will assemble for “Virtue and the Abundant Life: Teaching and Defending Virtue in the 21st Century” Thursday and Friday, October 21-22, at the Gordon B. Hinckley Alumni and Visitors Center on the campus of Brigham Young University.

Free and open to the public, the event is co-sponsored by BYU Religious Education and the Wheatley Institution and will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday.

“We have a remarkable schedule of speakers — each one specifically invited to write and speak on his or her subject — who will inspire the audience and present new insights about the conference theme,” said co-organizer Lloyd Newell, a professor of Church history and doctrine . “We hope the event will add to the understanding of virtue and the abundant life for students, faculty and community members alike.”

Speakers will including educators and authors Brad Agle, Jim Faulconer, Terry Olson, Lloyd Newell, Robert Millet, Newell Dayley, Terry Warner, Brent Top, Joseph Cannon, Camille Fronk, Dan Judd, Jan Scharman, Emily Reynolds, Camille Williams and Richard Williams.

A book and audio compilation of the presentations will be produced.
