Adult Religion Classes: This program hosted by BYU Continuing Education features an LDS Institute curriculum focused primarily on the LDS canon of scripture (Bible, Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants and Pearl of Great Price) and Latter-day Saint Church history and doctrine. The classes are designed exclusively for adults and are held at selected LDS Institutes and/or meetinghouses. Course length varies from 10 to 17 weeks (with classes meeting once a week). Children and Teens’ Creative Dance: Participants in the program will receive training in dance technique to develop flexibility, coordination, strength, physical awareness and body control. Students will learn through movement the basics of rhythm, participate in problem solving, create innovative compositions and develop excellent performance skills. FHE at the MPC: Every second and fourth Monday of each month, the Museum of Peoples and Cultures hosts a Family Home Evening event for local groups. Emeritus Activity “Ray Beckham”: Join the BYU emeriti in a luncheon followed by a lecture by Ray Beckham, founder of the Aspen Grove Family Camp, co-founder of the BYU Cougar Club, BYU’s first LDS bishop, as well as a professor and an administrator. IBA Conference: The 22nd International Conference on Bear Research and Management will present papers and posters dealing with the biology, management and conservation of the world’s eight species of bears. The overriding theme for the conference is “Bears in Winter.” Field trips are planned, as well as a public evening Sept. 19 from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Wilkinson Student Center. The event will feature face painting, a life-size bear den to explore, expert advice from bear researchers, photographs with guest bear Nanook and friends and a presentation from Andrew Derocher, world-renowned polar bear researcher. Planning for Financial Retirement: A free BYU course (Business Management 205R) is offered to BYU full-time employees and their spouses. Scott Marsh, a financial planner and part-time faculty member in the BYU Marriott School of Management, will present the class. In this six-session class, which goes through Oct. 22, Marsh will teach what participants need to know to be able to retire in peace, security and reasonable comfort. Service to the World: A service project will be available for students from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Brigham Square supporting “Service to the World,” a program that coordinates with various non-governmental organizations to provide humanitarian needs and supplies and distribute them globally.

Best Buddies: This volunteer service program matches college students with adults from the community who have intellectual disabilities. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in 3290 Wilkinson Student Center. Grant Taggart Symposium: The symposium, held annually at the BYU Conference Center, comprises a selection of educational sessions for professional and practice development in the life insurance and financial services industry. This year’s theme is “Providing 25 Years of Professional Excellence.” Classes and workshops are specifically provided for agents, managers, and staff and are a great way to obtain education licensing credits. Friday, Sept. 20
Service Chill at the Wall: This is a casual social event with service projects at the Wall in the Wilkinson Student Center from 2 to 5 p.m. Drinks will be half off for anyone wearing the Y-Serve wristband. The wristbands will be handed out throughout campus during the third week of September.
MPC Date Night: The Museum of Peoples and Cultures will host a “Survivor Date Night” at 7 p.m. Twelve couples will be divided into two tribes and compete in four different activities to try and get the most points for their group. Tickets are $10 a couple and can be purchased beginning Monday, Sept. 16, at the Wilkinson Student Center information desk. The museum is located at 100 E. 700 N. in Provo.

Hospice and Palliative Care Conference: This conference, held annually at the BYU Conference Center, is for health-care professionals who work in hospice, who want to learn more about hospice (physicians, RNs, social workers, CNAs, etc.), and/or who are interested in earning CEUs or CME credit. Continuing education hours will be available for physicians, nurses and social workers. The conference is also for anyone who has seen the benefits of hospice through a family member or loved one, or who would just like to learn more about hospice. Parents Weekend: All parents and families of BYU students are invited to visit campus this fall for Parents Weekend. Museums Live Day: This is a day, celebrated across the state, for recognizing local museums. The Museum of Peoples and Cultures will have booths in front of its building as guests will participate in games and activities, tour the museum for free and enjoy light refreshments. The Monte L. Bean Life Science Museum is closed for renovation and is not scheduled to reopen until spring 2014.
Dinosaur Exhibit: The BYU Museum of Paleontology, formerly the Earth Science Museum, was recently expanded to display most of its collection. Now with the new 5,000 square-foot addition, the museum features a replica of a 9-foot long triceratops skull from Montana, dinosaur bones found last summer near Moab, a Cretaceous period nest, dinosaur skeletons of a Camptosaurus and Allosaurus, and a mural of the Utah-Colorado region during the Jurassic Period. Visitors can touch real fossils and view them being prepared in the active laboratory. The museum, located at 1683 N. Canyon Road in Provo, is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, with extended “Family Night” hours Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. Admission is free. For more information, call (801) 422-3680.
Planetarium Shows: The Royden G. Derrick Planetarium regularly offers Friday night shows hosted by the BYU Astronomical Society at 7 and 8 p.m. for $2 a person. Anthropology Exhibit: The Museum of Peoples and Cultures opened the exhibit titled “Entwined: A Vibrant Heritage of the Modern Maya,” which teaches about textile creation, a tradition that has carried on through the generations. Stories from Around the World: The Museum of Peoples and Cultures is now featuring a story time for toddlers and preschoolers every Friday at 11 a.m. during the school year. The program is free with new stories and a new culture each week. The museum is located on 700 North 100 East in Provo. Each week, folktales will help children to explore elements – like music, clothing and families – that cultures throughout the globe share. Free Exhibit Tours: BYU’s “Education in Zion” exhibit in the Joseph F. Smith Building now offers daily tours Monday through Friday at 1 p.m. in addition to regular hours: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays and extended hours on Monday and Wednesday until 9 p.m. Tours begin in the east-wing lobby on the main floor of the Joseph F. The gallery recently opened a new exhibition showcasing some of the better-known politicians who have visited the university in the past.
Free Family History Classes: The Family History Library at the Harold B. Lee Library at BYU offers free family history classes the second and fourth Sunday of each month. Classes begin at 3 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. The library’s family history resources and consultants are available from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on these Sundays. Free Study Help Workshops: The Career and Academic Success Center at BYU offers classes on test preparation, stress management and time management.
