Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan to address BYU forum Nov. 19

Peggy Noonan, columnist for The Wall Street Journal, will present a Brigham Young University campus forum address on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 11:05 a.m. in the Marriott Center. Admission is free and the public is welcome.

The forum will be broadcast live on the BYU Broadcasting channels and online at byutv.org. Broadcast and rebroadcast information can be found through byutv.org/schedule. Archived forums and devotionals are available at speeches.byu.edu.

In addition to her weekly columns in The Wall Street Journal, Noonan’s writings have appeared in TIME, Newsweek, The Washington Postand other publications. She also frequently provides political commentary on television.

In 2008, the National Journal labeled Noonan’s political column “indispensable to an understanding of the presidential year,” and Forbes magazine called her column “principled, perceptive, persuasive and patriotic.”

Noonan was a special assistant to President Ronald Reagan from 1984 to 1986. She was chief speechwriter for Vice President George H. W. Bush when he ran for the presidency in 1988. Before entering the Reagan White House, Noonan was a producer at CBS News in New York. In 1978 and 1979, she was an adjunct professor of journalism at New York University.

She is also the best-selling author of eight books on American politics, history and culture. Noonan’s most recent book, “Patriotic Grace,” published by Collins in 2008, is written in the pamphleteering tradition of Tom Paine’s “Common Sense” and is a call for a more elevated national politics.

Noonan holds honorary doctorates from Miami University, St. John Fisher College, University of Portland, Adelphi University, St. Francis College, Ave Maria University and her alma mater, Fairleigh Dickinson University.

Green-thumb dynasty: BYU landscaping wins fifth national championship in six years

For the fifth time in six years, BYU students dug, pruned and planted their way to the National Collegiate Landscaping Competition title, the March Madness of college landscaping teams. BYU bested 50 other universities in the four-day event, outscoring the second-place finisher by more than 358 points and breaking the 5000-point total for the first time in the 48-year history of the tournament.
