Wabash College's Stephen H. Webb to give Wheatley Institution address Nov. 15

Wil consider “The Mormon Ecumenical Moment”

The Wheatley Institution at Brigham Young University will host Stephen H. Webb, professor of religion and philosophy at Wabash College, in an address titled “The Mormon Ecumenical Moment” at the Fifth Annual Truman G. Madsen Lecture Thursday, Nov. 15, at 7:30 p.m. in the Gordon B. Hinckley Alumni and Visitors Center Assembly Hall.

Admission is free, and the public is welcome.

Webb has given invited lectures at many other institutions, including Purdue, Pepperdine, Creighton, Wheaton and Loyola.  His most recent books are “Jesus Christ, Eternal God: Heavenly Flesh and the Metaphysics of Matter” and “The Dome of Eden: A New Solution to the Problem of Creation and Evolution.”  He has written on a wide range of other topics, including philosophy of basketball, the role of sound in Christian history and vegetarianism.  

In February 2012 “First Things” published his essay, “Mormonism Obsessed with Christ.”  He was received into full communion in the Roman Catholic Church in 2007. He received a bachelor’s degree from Wabash College and a doctoral degree from the University of Chicago. 

Named for Jack and Mary Lois Wheatley, the Wheatley Institution at BYU enhances the reputation and scholarship of BYU by seeking creative and powerful ideas that lead toward practical and constructive solutions to real societal issues.
