Victor Migenes will deliver Seventh Annual Hyrum B. Summerhays Lecture Oct. 9

Brigham Young University professor of astronomy Victor Migenes will be the speaker at the Seventh Annual Hyrum B. Summerhays Lecture Friday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m. in the Harold B. Lee Library Auditorium.

Migenes’ presentation, “Astrophysics and Apologetics: Understanding Astrophysical Questions,” will address the rich history of the relationship between science and religion from an astronomical perspective and will discuss the enduring questions presented by both.

Admission is free, and the public is welcome.

An internationally recognized expert in the field of astrophysical masers or microwave amplification by stimulation emission of radiation, Migenes said that some of the brightest minds known in science have studied nature and felt or believed in some type of higher power. Most importantly, they felt no contradiction existed between science and their beliefs.

The Summerhays Lecture is sponsored by the BYU College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences. The series is an opportunity to reflect on the relationship between science and religion.
