Val Hawks named director of BYU School of Technology

Val Hawks has been appointed director of the School of Technology at Brigham Young University's Ira A. Fulton College of Engineering and Technology. He has been serving as interim director of the school since June 2006.

Hawks received his Ph.D. degree from Gonzaga University, a master's degree from LeHigh University in industrial engineering and his bachelor's degree from BYU in design engineering technology.

In 2006, he received the Excellence in Leadership Professorship from the college which promotes and recognizes outstanding faculty efforts to implement aspects of leadership in curriculum and programs in support of college strategic objectives.

Prior to joining BYU, Hawks worked for 3M, Xerox Corp. and the Ben Franklin Technical Center.

BYU landscaping students dig their way to 10th national championship

BYU’s landscaping team is the best in the field, literally. While most national championships are won on the court or the gridiron, this one was claimed with pruned shrubs, expertly placed pavers, and top-tier irrigation systems.
