University Bands to perform in concert April 12

Brigham Young University’s two non-auditioned band ensembles will be performing at the University Bands Concert Tuesday, April 12, at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall.

Tickets are available for $3 at byuarts.com/tickets. With more than 100 students in each group, the varied repertoire of the University Bands will appeal to everyone.

Conductors David Faires and Fred McInnis will lead each band in two separate performances for the concert. Faires’ band will perform five numbers, including “National Emblem March” by E. E. Bagley, “Gershwin!” by Warren Barker and a four-part symphony called “Elements” by Brian Balmages.

After an intermission, McInnis will conduct four pieces with his band, “The Stars and Stripes Forever” by John Philip Sousa and “The Blue Bells of Scotland,” a trombone solo by guest artist Jared Hammer.

Due to its immense popularity, the BYU University Band was split into two to accommodate students from across campus. Open to all wind and percussion students, the University Band is separate from the Cougar Marching Band and enables music students to hone their skills on secondary instruments of their choice.

For more about this concert or the University Bands, contact Fred McInnis at (801) 422-3420 or fred_mcinnis@byu.edu, or visit bands.byu.edu/ensembles/university_band.html.
