Track and weight rooms operational in BYU's Smith Fieldhouse

After being interrupted by flooding caused by a broken water main, most major services have been restored in the Smith Fieldhouse at Brigham Young University.

The track reopened Monday morning. The inside lane is occupied with fans as work crews continue to dry the building, but all other lanes are open.

Student weight rooms were restored last week, and the faculty weight room was expected to be opened Monday afternoon and available for use Tuesday morning.

The Department of Exercise Sciences, normally found in 106 Smith Fieldhouse, is still located in 210 Richards Building through much of the week. It is expected that the department's main office will return to the Fieldhouse Thursday or Friday.

Classes resumed last week in the Fieldhouse, and church services took place as usual on Sunday.

Volleyball teams are scheduled to practice on the playing courts on Monday and give work crews feedback on the condition of the floor. While the floor was not flooded, water seeped underneath it.

Seven basement offices are being rebuilt.

The Deseret Morning News reported Nov.6, Nov. 8 and Nov. 12 on the events that precipitated a busy week of cleanup, restoration and schedule shuffling.
