"Strut Your Stuff" Internship Showcase April 1 to show opportunities

BYU students will set up booths in hopes of winning a cash prize as part of the Eighth Annual “Strut Your Stuff” Internship Showcase Friday, April 1, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Wilkinson Student Center Ballroom.

All students are invited to enjoy free dessert while learning about internship opportunities in their field of study and view the variety of student displays of past internships.

The Internship Office at BYU recognizes student accomplishments by awarding a grade prize of $500 to showcase winners and a variety of category and runner-up prizes, totaling $3,200. Jeffrey Keith, associate academic vice president, will announce the winners at 1 p.m.

Winners will be selected in several categories including most creative display, most informative display, most motivational display, most unique internship, most influential or impactful internship and most culturally enriching internship. Attendees can also vote on the $250 People’s Choice Award for the favorite display before 12:30 p.m.

“We hope that the Internship Showcase will motivate more students to choose to complete an internship, even if their major does not require one for graduation,” said Kristine Hansen, Internship Office director. “Internships are an excellent way for students to gain practical experience in the workplace and to solidify and apply concepts they have learned in the classroom. Research shows that students who complete internships have a strong advantage in the job market after graduation.”

Student participants represent departments across the university, including genetics and biotechnology, industrial design, public relations, economics, political science, anthropology, Latin American studies, chemistry, marriage and family studies and microbiology. Students will be displaying their experiences with L’Oreal USA, NBC News, Harvard Stem Cell Institute, ExxonMobil, World Health Organization and Lucas Film and will include international internships in France, Peru, Czech Republic, El Salvador, China, Ghana, India and South Africa.

For more information about internships or the showcase, visit saas.byu.edu/intern/ or contact your department internship coordinator or the Internship Office at (801) 422-3337.
