Special Gallery Stroll July 19 will showcase art by children with disabilities

This summer,  special education teacher candidates at Brigham Young University's David O. McKay School of Education will host a free art exhibit which will showcase the talents of special education students in local school districts.

The Young Artist Gallery Stroll will be Friday, July 19, from 6 to 9 p.m. in room 2255 of the BYU Conference Center northeast of the Marriott Center. The teacher candidates have been working with these special students during their summer practicum in the BYU-Public School Partnership school districts.

The Gallery Stroll will be a night where the community can see some great artwork and for these young special students to see their work on display in a professional setting. It will also show the kind of work current BYU education students are doing in local communities.

The event is sponsored by BYU’s chapter of the Student Council of Exceptional Children, the largest international professional organization dedicated to improving the educational success of individuals with disabilities and/or gifts and talents.

For more information about the event or to set up an interview with Katie Steed, the SCEC faculty advisor, or Chloe Paleothorpe, the BYU SCEC president, contact Roxanna Johnson, (801) 422-1922, roxanna_johnson@byu.edu.
