Runners gather for BYU's annual Rex E. Lee Run March 27

The eighth annual Rex Lee 5K Run will be held Saturday, March 27, at 9 a.m. beginning at the BYU outdoor track located south of LaVell Edwards Stadium on the Brigham Young University campus.

The event is named after Rex E. Lee, former president of BYU who died of cancer in 1996.

A 10K run has been added to this year's events, which also include live music and inflatables for kids.

All proceeds from the event go directly to on-campus cancer research at the BYU Cancer Research Center.

The student prerace registration fee for the 5K is $l2 and $17 for the 10K. Registration on the day of the race will be $20 for the 5K and $25 for the 10K and will be from 7 to 8:30 a.m.

Students can register online at http://rexleerun.byu.edu, at Hogi Yogi's Provo location at 44 E. 1230 N., at Runner's Corner in Orem, 330 E. 800 S., and at booths set up in the Wilkinson Student Center.

Included in the registration cost will be a commemorative T-shirt, entry into a postrace drawing, food, massages and awards for the division winners. Prizes and medals for the runners will also be available.

Runners should be at the outdoor track at least 30 minutes before the race to get their bibs and T-shirt.

For a course map and other race information, visit the Web site http://rexleerun.byu.edu, or call (801) 422-3913.

BYU professors using game-changing strategies to prevent injuries, promote wellbeing in youth athletes

May 07, 2024
BYU professor Matt Seeley created the Strong Youth Project after watching all five of his children participate in youth sports. While he loves the many invaluable benefits of youth sports, he laments that his children often miss family activities for practice or face pressures to compete in sports during the offseason. These concerns have fueled his collaboration with professors from disciplines across BYU’s campus to improve organized sport experiences for youth, parents and coaches.
