Rulon Pope to deliver BYU Maeser Distinguished Faculty Lecture May 15

Rulon Pope, a professor in the Department of Economics, will present the 2012 Karl G. Maeser Distinguished Faculty Lecture at a Brigham Young University forum Tuesday, May 15, at 11:05 a.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall. The title of his speech will be “Engel’s Law.”

It will be broadcast live on KBYU-TV (Channel 11), BYU-Television, KBYU-FM (89.1), BYU-Radio and byutv.org, as well as on campus in the Joseph Smith Building auditorium and the Varsity Theatre in the Wilkinson Student Center. The Maeser Distinguished Faculty Lecture is BYU’s top faculty honor and is announced each year during the Annual University Conference in August.

Rulon Pope held positions at University of California-Davis and Texas A&M University prior to coming to BYU in 1982. He received his doctorate from University of California-Berkeley in 1976.

His areas of research include agricultural economics, econometrics and microeconomic theory. He is a fellow of the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association and has served on editorial boards and as associate editor of the Association’s journal, the American Journal of Agricultural Economics.

He has been president of the Western Agricultural Economics Association and has received a number of research awards from these two professional associations. He is a recipient of the Karl G. Maeser Research and Creative Arts Award and holds the Warren and Wilson Dusenberry Professorship.
