Redd Center plans luncheon discussion Sept. 22

BYU's Charles Redd Center for Western Studies invites all faculty and staff members interested in the American West to a discussion and luncheon on Monday, Sept. 22. The discussion will focus on the Western Studies minor offered by the Redd Center in conjunction with BYU's American Studies program.

The discussion will be held at 11 a.m. in 3220 WSC, and the luncheon will follow at noon in 3222 WSC.

The event will provide an opportunity for those interested in the American West to discuss their research interests. The Redd Center plans to hold this meeting annually.

The Western Studies minor includes a course, American Studies 200, which introduces students to the way various disciplines study the West, such as range science, film, the social sciences and even environmental impact statements. Students then take classes from the sciences, humanities and social sciences to complete the minor.

Participants at the discussion and luncheon are encouraged to provide a list of classes that could be used to fill the elective requirements.

If you would like to attend the discussion and luncheon, RSVP by Sept. 17 to Kris Nelson at ext. 2-4048 or at kn4@email.byu.edu. You may also contact her if you are unable to attend but would like to know about future Redd Center activities.

BYU professors using game-changing strategies to prevent injuries, promote wellbeing in youth athletes

May 07, 2024
BYU professor Matt Seeley created the Strong Youth Project after watching all five of his children participate in youth sports. While he loves the many invaluable benefits of youth sports, he laments that his children often miss family activities for practice or face pressures to compete in sports during the offseason. These concerns have fueled his collaboration with professors from disciplines across BYU’s campus to improve organized sport experiences for youth, parents and coaches.
