The Department of History at Brigham Young University will host the 21st annual Russel B. Swensen Lecture Thursday, March 2, at 11 a.m. in 111 Ezra Taft Benson Building.

Lizabeth Cohen, the Howard Mumford Jones Professor of American Studies at Harvard University, will present the lecture, “The Life of Edward J. Logue and the Rebuilding of America’s Cities after World War II.”

Admission is free and the public is welcome.

Cohen will focus on the book she is researching about Edward J. Logue and his impact in postwar urban renewal and the remaking of the urban built environment from the 1950s through the 1980s.

She received a bachelor of arts degree from Princeton University and a doctorate from the University of California, Berkeley. Besides her post at Harvard, she has taught at Carnegie Mellon University and New York University.

She authored the book “A Consumers’ Republic: The Politics of Mass Consumption in Postwar America” and co-authored the popular U.S. history college textbook “The American Pageant.”

Endowed by the family and friends of BYU history professor Russel B. Swensen, the annual lectureship honors the memory and contributions of the long-time member of the department.
